The Government of Canada, formally Her Majesty's Government, is the system in which the Confederation of Canada is administered by a common authority. The concept was established at Confederation through the Constitution Act, 1867, as a constitutional monarchy in which the Canadian monarchy is the "most basic unit" of democratic monarchy Westminster parliamentary system. The Crown is the basis of executive powers, legislative, and judicial branches of government. Other state institutions are described in the Constitution of Canada.
